Dante Alighieri

Dante Alighieri was an Italian poet, writer and philosopher of the 13th century, known mainly for his most famous work, the “Divine Comedy”.
Dante Alighieri was born in Florence in 1265 and died in 1321 in Ravenna and is considered one of the greatest poets of Italian and world literature.
His influence on literature and culture has been enormous over the centuries, especially with the Divine Comedy, which is still studied and appreciated throughout the world today and is considered one of the absolute masterpieces of world literature.

Dante Alighieri is also often considered the father of the modern Italian language. His use of Tuscan in the Divine Comedy helped solidify Tuscan as the basis of the standard Italian language.

The divine comedy

Dante Alighieri’s most famous work, the Divine Comedy was written between 1308 and 1321 (the year of his death). The Divine Comedy is a poem divided into three parts: The first is hell where Dante describes his journey guided by Virgil (an ancient Roman poet) crossing the nine infernal circles, Purgatory is the second part where Dante climbs the mountain of Purgatory led by his beloved Beatrice and Paradise is the part where Dante ascends through the nine circles of paradise meeting blessed souls, saints and angels.
In addition to his most famous work, Dante Alighieri wrote many others, such as “La Vita Nuova” (1294-1295) where Dante expresses his love for Beatrice containing reflections and analyzes of his own feelings, “Il convivio” (1304-1307 ), “De Monarchia” (1313-1314) and “Quastio de Aqua ed Terra” (1320).

Dante's Inferno

“Dante’s Inferno” is an action video game inspired by the inferno of the Divine Comedy. Developed by the Vesceral Games company and published by Electronic Arts, it was released in 2010 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
The video game follows the story of Dante, mainly the episode where Dante, after his return home, discovers that his beloved Beatrice has been killed and her soul has been taken to hell, determined to save her he ventures into the underworld crossing the nine circles of hell fighting with demonic creatures. 

The demonic creatures present in the game are composed of minor demons, the Lussoriosi who have distorted aspects and attacks based on seduction and lust, flying creatures and infernal bosses each inspired by a mythological figure or an infernal creature of Dante.

Dante's Inferno - Gameplay

The gameplay is characterized by intense combats in which the player uses various weapons to face enemies and infernal creatures with unlockable combos and special moves, finally there is the possibility to customize and enhance Dante’s abilities.
The video game was appreciated for its impressive graphics at the time, from the dynamic combat system to the faithfulness of the hellish setting.
In conclusion, Dante’s Inferno is an example of how the gaming world can approach classic literary works to create an even more unique gaming experience.
